Hi, I been working for Lloyds Bank for almost 9 years now , I recently attended a interview for Barclays and offered an Senior Business Analyst AVP role in Wealth and private banking area. I did not see much difference in the salary offered and it is pretty much same ie 68.5k.But the difference is current role is London based, however the Barclays one is based in Glasgow where cost of living is less in comparison. I am unable to decide whether to take the offer or not..any suggestions will be helpful pls.

UPDATE I pitched redoing an old brochure and sending them 2-3 pages. The hiring manager was completely fine with this.
Maybe a small design task but that’s waaaaayyyyy to big.
Give them your rate. That’s a lot to ask for. I’ve done “design exercises” during interviews before but generally they are small hypothetical projects that can take a day max. But I’ve also been asked to make a landing page for real product and quoted them my rate and they accepted as part of interview process. If they don’t wana pay you then it’s a huge red flag.
you should get paid for that. don’t do work for free.
It's not normal at all_but keep in mind, if you do any work and it was not specified in a contract or if you are not full time, it is yours to keep and put into your portfolio. That's right, it's 100% yours, please do research and know your rights with the work you create. That being said, If you like the company & don't have any prospects, maybe do the work. Put it in a deck, give it to them. Make sure and state if they are interested in your work, your interested in joining the company or else you're open to letting the have the rights to use for the time it took to create and/or they have the ability to buy it outright, but it's yours. It's a bit of a tough one as other factors are in play I'm sure, but be assured all work you do is yours-and who knows you might even create a nice portfolio piece.
Hope that helps.
I don’t need this as a portfolio piece and in all honesty, I don’t have the time this week to even do this. The company is alright but I worry about how healthy this position is if these are their expectations prior to even being hired.
This is a 🚩
I got a great job because I busted my ass for a design assignment. It was great, I was able to prove I could deliver a request, no uncertainty in my skill or thinking. There are shady people, but what does it cost you to do it? It’s your time to prove you can work with them. A 10 page brochure, fill it with Loren ipsum. Still gives them an idea.
I think verbal critique is a good interview test but redesigning 10 pages is just too much
Yeah that’s a little extreme. A page spread would give them an idea of what you can do
That’s great, good initiative. They’re likely open to alternatives, they want to see if your a good fit, not trying to harvest talent.
I’ve done lots of design exercises with potential hires. Almost none of them usable because they don’t understand our design process/brand. Doesn’t mean I don’t see great work, but if I saw something great I’d really want that person on my team. I think design challenges are absolutely needed.
so many people are not clear in what role they play on complex projects a portfolio is only 30% of what I need to understand.
I agree. These tests are great to weed out the talent. My biggest gripe was the extend of the project and the need for design (not redesign) a future booklet. It was just a red flag for me
