Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

When you get the offer say thanks so much, after realizing the full scope of the role, I believe the salary lines up more with xyz amount. Is there budget to discuss this? Something like that
Ask a Manager has some good scripts but the general approach is to say something like, "Now that I have a better sense for the role and understand that the scope entails x and y, I wanted to revisit the salary we discussed. [The market rate/ my expectation] for a role with these aspects would be more like $Z."
Agree with what’s been said. I’d also like to say this is a big reason I do not give a range without discussing the scope or full package first. Even if they come back within your new range, what if the benefits are abysmal? Then you have to negotiate again.
Until you sign the offer, you can negotiate. Don't feel like you're too terribly locked into anything until you feel you've fully negotiated. It's much harder to change your mind after the paperwork has been signed.
