Thomas J. Watson (IBM) said "the way to succeed is to double your failure rate" and that's always stuck with me

I think it's a great phrase, especially for those who think that to be successful they can't fail.

KKIQIIIIOQQQQ

One of my professors used to say, "There's nothing easy about success; it has a lot of failures," and that's something I still struggle to understand since I see so many successful people so quickly...

We don't know how many times someone has failed to create something unique; that's a fact. That includes the simple things we take for granted today, like cups or even pens!

I went to the lease this last weekend. Not one drop of alcohol was had. That was the closest I’ve come to caving. 4 wheelers, killing dinner with big guns, doing manly things in God’s country. Beer is an absolute necessity during these events. Anyhow, I didn’t drink. Proud of myself. Monumental moment for me.

Is 7 weeks too early to start thinking I may have made a huge mistake in switching to my current gig? I left the last place because it was overr toxic and terrible W/L balance, for one that seemed to be more “fun” and more realistic hours, only to find that I’ve now been working 12 -14 hours a day and just drowning and feeling like I cannot catch up or catch my breath. Everyone is in the same boat here which is why I’m so overwhelmed so quickly with no support. Is this an immediate red flag?

Hi All, I have an urgent query regarding TCS BGC process. My issue is that I have worked in X, Y and Z companies.
In X company I worked for 26months but my pf account is there for last 13months, before that my salary was very low so sometimes I got salary in hand or in pay cheque. I do have salary account statement for most of the months except 3-4 months in between my tenure. Will I face any issue for this?
Note: I do have good relationship with X company.
Please give your valuable suggestions.

Do you think capitalism is compatible with a sense of ethics, or is another system better suited for it?

Ethics are a glorified way to protect companies from liability. Change my mind.

Just wondering if anyone here has reported someone to Ethics, had the illegal or unethical behavior of the person been substantiated and STILL be retaliated by their company. Also please state if you followed the reporting policy and if your company has a non-retaliation policy

Why is that?

How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? It’s not magic, just ignorance about the machine actually works. How to I get a manager to stop caring about the end product long enough for me to actually teach them about their own machine?

Any Bridge Engineers/Structural Engineers in here? I got my PE this year and have 5 YOE in TX + an MS. What sort of raise would you expect for receiving your PE working in a consulting firm? I am EOR on a number of structures in development, I manage EITs and Drafters (within projects; I'm not a supervisor), and am doing a lot in general. I'm at 78k currently, which is apparently still in the upper range of EIT salaries per a job posting in CO. I'm thinking of 15% (5% merit, 10% PE). Any ideas?
