Yo dude,
I checked out your site and got some feedback for you. Hope it’s helpful.

Overall thoughts:
What do you want to work on?
I ask that because I don’t get to know your personality or interests from your work and it seems like you only work on cars. Like if you wanna do Old Spice work, show humor, if you wanna do sports, show some athletic ideas, etc. Right now it seems like you are the car guy, and that might be correct. But even still, do some really cool car ideas that might not ever be sold, it will show what you are capable of. Check out the car work that Goodby/Crispín/Widen did to see what car work can be, and aim for that. as you are young, I would make proactive ideas about things you want to work on in the future, otherwise you will always be the car creative (nothing wrong with that either).

Combine the pages My Work + My Ideas, it’s confusing and makes me wonder is your work not your ideas. And not everyone is going to click on both.

I would remove all these projects as they don’t really shine your design or creative abilities too: BMW/Mini, Ford day to day, I would actually only show one Ford idea, I don’t get the Mustang idea other than we placed a car here, Fitbit, etc.

Good luck man!

Thanks man - I wrote a reply and would be keen on feedback to proactive ideas

Thanks ACD1

I actually don't want to be the car guy. Kind of got pigeon-holed into it. The car market is incredibly conservative in Australia.

Since working on cars I want to expand and work on other clients to diversity my creative skills and be better. Which is why I have proactive work to show that I can do other clients.

I was told to separate my car work from my proactive ideas. So that people know what is real. they also advised I show the car stuff from both agencies...

I'll put cars and proactive back together

What did you think of the proactive ideas as well?

Cheers

It’s fine as you are a young creative, No one expects all your work to be actually produced yet. I would always show your best work first, preferably your favorite type of work you want to do. Most recruiters don’t have much time so they may only see 2-3 projects of yours before moving on.

The bees beer is cute, but the campaign doesn’t really go anywhere. Cheerios made a billboard made of honeycombs, not saying it was the best thing in the world, but it got your attention. You also can’t show people drinking beer on an ad for some legal reasons here in the States.

Flags I get the idea, but visually I don’t understand it fully. Just looks like a badly lit photograph.

The one I think has the most interest for me because it’s less expected is the Vegemite for babies.

I think most of your proactive work doesn’t lead to a recruiter being like “I can see him doing well at one of our brands”. I say that because I wouldn’t really know where to place you at the agency I’m at.

The market might be different in Australia, but here it’s easier to get in if you have great work with some of these below:

- Food (KFC, Doritos, Coca-Cola, Milk, Snickers, Sour Patch Kids)
- Sports (Nike, NBA State Farm sponsorships, Beats by Dre)
- Technology (Facebook, AT&T, Apple, Amazon, Squarespace, Nintendo)
- Cars (VW, Tesla, etc)
- Music (AirPods, Spotify, Grammys)
- There’s also luxury, fashion, pharma, etc.

As you are still building your portfolio, stop doing work that doesn’t excite you. You will be put on mediocre work if that’s what it seems you are into. If you are a sneakerhead, do a project that can lead you to work on Nike someday. If you love music, do work that shows you know it well to get you a job at Spotify. Same with whatever your personality is.

My proactive projects got me off mediocre work and onto some cool stuff.

Hope that helps. Cheers!
