Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

"comparison is the thief of joy"
You don't know, definitively, if you outperformed this man. Or if he somehow saved the company a billion dollars by catching an error. No bonus is guaranteed, but it is pretty unprofessional that it made its way to you.

Didn’t the company compare them though?
I would definitely as what you need to do to get the raises/bonuses. The bird with its mouth shut does not get fed!

"Do raises/bonuses always reflect performance, or are there hidden criteria?"
Depends on the plan guidelines and company culture, but in some organizations bonuses are subject to discretionary review by leadership.
Do you have the same tenure with the company? That can often be a criteria as it helps with retention.
Unless the bonus structure is plainly laid out there is some element of hidden criteria. Agree that it is hard to say what they have done, you never really know, but would also be feeling a type of way if I felt like my bonus wasn’t up to snuff after hearing it. If I’m being paid alright and was initially happy with my bonus, I’d try to just focus on that.

How did you find out? I’d be mad but would ask my boss what I could do better. I probably wouldn’t outright mention knowing the other person’s bonus
