Any HR pros able to explain the process for hiring US citizens to Canadian offices, and if that process is so onerous you would rather offer a much higher US salary to avoid it?

Depends on the visa. H1B = onerous and more expensive. TN = cheap and easy and only requires an offer letter at the border. TN is restricted to roughly 60 professions though and the management consultant one is heavily scrutinized. I did TN and it took me 3 attempts at the border to finally get through. Your fate is left in the hands of a border agent who doesn’t even have their own 4 year degree but is scrutinizing yours.

Fascinating. There a website I can reference for deeper background?
