Not sure if uptight is the right word but east coast has higher expectations/standards and is def more buttoned up. I think west coast’s more chill/less process way of operating is due to the fact there’s a smaller pool of talent and less depth of experience
East coast is aggressive, west coast is passive aggressive.
I think this is accurate to my current experience
Lived on the east coast most of my life, freelanced on the west coast for about 6 months before covid hit, now I’m working at an east coast agency. Granted I’m only a junior.
East coast seems like longer hours but more culture bc you spend time w coworkers after work too, west coast is staying till ppl start leaving if you finished your work and that’s it bc of long commute.
East coast doesn’t seem uptight to me. It’s a little more honest and tough love, unfortunately cutthroat in some cases. West coast felt disingenuous, like kind to your face but will screw you over in private while playing aloof.
East coast is more hours but also more focused with a desire to do award winning work. Be ready to work some weekends. I think it also has that vibe because your competitors are like 2 avenues away.
West coast is more laid back, a “well get it done Monday” attitude. Honestly, not a ton of great shops in the west right now.
Tupac or Biggie
Hmm no, I think in general more people are driven and ambitious On the east coast. But I have been challenged more (in a good way) on the west coast.
Certain verticals on the west coast will still be uptight/a grind ex: entertainment, auto, QSR, etc.
