Looking back, what was the single decision that had the biggest impact on your career trajectory? First job? Leaving public? Switching industries? It feels like a few key moments matter more than everything else combined.

Staying at my firm and leveraging the relationships and reputation I built instead of jumping firms to chase what at the time was a lot of money and looking back is a very small amount of money

Same thought. I got very close to leaving as an experienced SM for what I thought was a massive raise - almost 40%. I blew way past that by staying and making partner.

Honestly, I would say networking. You never know who you are going to meet along the way. Many of the jobs I have had have come from people I met along the way who referred me.

The key moments for me weren't so much decisions I made as chance meetings and events. I once got a job because I ran into someone I knew and he told me to call a friend who knew of an opening. That sort of thing can really influence your life. It's like the old Dylan line, "The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense, take what you have gathered from coincidence." Some coincidences really matter, if you're open to them.

For me it was a career pivot into the accounting field from retail distribution. The single biggest increase to my income came from the first accounting job after I left retail distribution, and not having to work weekends or major holidays was a plus too!

Anyone here who made the exit from Big 4/MBB consulting to a VC? If so, I’d love to hear about how the experience is so far. (Not to mention the WLB and comp!) I’m considering a career change but have no one in my network I can go to for insights. Thx! 🙏🏾

Hi Fishes! I have had the Director round for the Senior Associate role Pwc AC under Digital Learning and Upskilling. I have 15 months of experience in the consulting division. How much should the salary be for this role? And, do I stand a chance at the firm?

Just lost my job. Has the job market started to cool down? What should I expect for leadership roles in I.T.
