Block my calendar daily for times I need to sign off for pick up.
I start work earlier to accommodate for extra time (immediately after school drop off). Honestly this is when I get an insane amount done.
Communicate with you PMs and teammates. If they don’t know they won’t know to accommodate.
Being a mother. And a creative is this field (esp AD) requires you to being incredibly efficient. Button yourself up and stand firm on your boundaries and you’ll be surprised how the rest falls into place.
You’re allowed to say no.
Some ppl are easier to work with than others but that’s true as a parent or not.
If you’re at an agency that really thinks more hours equal better work you’re at a shit agency to begin with and it’d be far more beneficial to you and your family to find one that respects work life boundaries. At the end of the day - this is a job and your family is your family.
I left agency 🤷♀️

Impossible to set boundaries like this in a workplace with the expectation and understanding that “great creative requires overtime”.
Unless you have favoritism on your side, it will be viewed negatively.
The very nature of our work absorbs endless iterations, scope creep, 11th hour pivots, false urgencies and appeasing clients to ensure we keep our clients.
Ours is an industry where burnout, stress and cancer diagnoses are commonplace because creative workers are often not respected by the employer nor the client.
And I fear AI will exacerbate this lack of respect.
Block your calendar during core hours with your kids. Don’t reply to anything that can wait until next day (or acknowledge that you will get to this tomorrow type response). Be flexible when it really matters (pitch?) and communicate with your manager. It can be done. Set your own example and experiment with it. I’m also telling myself this …
