Most people don’t plan to stay long in customer service roles. I didn’t either, it was supposed to be ‘just for now.’ But I got comfortable. I knew the routine, liked the team, so I stayed. I didn’t even bother looking for something better for years that actually matched my education or potential.
Anyone else ever stayed somewhere longer than you planned just because it felt comfortable?

...every retail worker feels personally attacked by this post 😂. Pretty sure everyone starts out thinking this is just going to be a temporary thing before they figure out their dreams and start chasing them. Then 10 years go by and you're still grinding away.

like

So true! We all think it’s just temporary… and before we know it, years have passed. It’s important to balance comfort with growth.

Every single job usually I go into… I think I’m only gonna be here for a few months I’ll find something else… 4 years later for my current one!

like

Very relatable! We often start a job thinking it’s short-term, but the environment and team make us stay. Four years is definitely an achievement!

Absolutely. Comfort can be surprisingly sticky. You settle into the routine, the team, the predictability, and before you know it, years have passed, even if other opportunities were out there.

like

Exactly! Comfort can really be sticky. Routine and stability make you feel secure, which is why stepping out can be so hard.

I did stay in a CS job for a few years longer than I should have. But I was lucky that my manager promoted me and that gave me the opportunity to find a better job.

like

That’s great to hear! Sometimes staying a little longer opens unexpected doors. It’s amazing how one promotion can completely change your path.

I didn’t stay in a particular industry for too long, but I’ve stayed in positions at companies for far too long on several occasions.

like

That makes sense. Even if you switch industries, it’s easy to stay in certain roles longer than planned. Comfort and familiarity can really influence those decisions

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?

I received an offer from IBM Bangalore. However I saw openings at my preferred location Kochi only after the interviews. I called the HR after getting their point of contact mail and I asked if it's possible to switch. They said I'm already tagged to a project and that they'll check from their end if it can be done.

Anyone knows the chances of location being changed after receiving the offer and getting tagged to a project?

I have not yet accepted the offer.
