I know my boss at the restaurant will be really sad and upset if I leave. So I'm scared to do it
Sometimes it's okay to be a tiny bit selfish, you're own happiness is important too. You're right that your boss may get sad, but at the end of the day they can always get a new AM, and their business will keep running without you. Better to end it on good terms than to stay there who knows how much longer and grow animosity towards them.
You’ll regret it if you don’t.
Honestly I’d be upset with any of my staff if they passed up an opportunity to follow a dream over working in the restaurant. Those chances don’t come around very often.
You have the exact opportunity you've been dreaming of and you're doubting it? What are you scared of? Life is giving you the chance to live out your vision, I don't see why you would turn it away. I say go for it and don't look back
Are you part owner of this restaurant? Are you personally invested in its success? Otherwise, I'm curious why you feel that your boss's feelings about you leaving should be considered, they can always find a new assistant manager
No I'm not part owner. I just feel bad because they spent all this time training me and stuff and have invested into me. I'm a very emotional person and get very emotional on the inside a lot
I think those are the kind of offers you just have to say yes to. 22, with your entire life ahead of you and a chance to prove yourself in your dream field, I don't think it gets much better than that
As a manager my self you have to do what's best for you. Think of it like this. You put your 2 weeks in and you start you film media career if you don't like it then you can either return to said job or find something similar to it
Then go for... let the other manager be mad but you can't worry about how anyone else feels just yourself. You've got this.
You are young enough where you should leave and take the chance. You can always come back to restaurant industry it’s not going anywhere. I became mgr at 20 years old. Left the army at 24 then came back into the industry. Moved to Vegas spent the past 20 years working my butt off I know a senior Director of operations. Take the chance you can always come back.
I'm in your exact same position right now. I finally took the leap and put in my notice. My GM and mentor was actually very understanding. I'll admit I was very nervous to have that conversation but I went very well. He taught me everything I know about being a Manager so I didn't want to make anyone disappointed for not continuing my management career, but it just isn't very easy to juggle a restaurant job with any relationship.
I was told once by our CEO that, "you're at a point on your life where you can only answer yes to new opportunities. Take the leap and do great things"
