Santa Monica is where it’s at for young professionals. Sherman Oaks is significantly cheaper, significantly warmer (not necessarily a bad thing, but worth considering) and much more of a family vibe.
Brentwood. Easy access to the 405. But close to the action if you want to get to SaMo, weho, Venice or culver.
Go with Sherman Oaks, or even closer. The closer you live to work, the more you will maintain your sanity. You can always drive/Uber to places after work or on weekends
Disagree with this. In OP’s case, it’s only an extra 15 minute commute for 3-4 days a week. The other days and weekends means you’re closer to everything else. There’s not much going on in Sherman Oaks except for families.
The westside is an awesome place to live!! Especially if you’re a young professional, but commuting to Thousand Oaks...probably a pretty terrible idea. Traffic on the 405 is killer
If you’re young, live on the west side. You’re going against traffic, it’s not that bad of a commute.
If you’re young, live on the west side, as close to the 405 as possible. Your commute is against traffic, it’ll be roughly an hour commute probably. My company was in Woodland Hills and I live in Venice which takes me a good 30-40 minutes.
For reference, I’d only need to go into office 3 or 4 days a week.
I’m wondering if living in Westside is worth the extra 15 mins of commute each way - or would I miss out on nightlife and meeting people by living in Sherman Oaks?
