Tribeca or Battery Park City... easy walking distance to the downtown foodie world.

Also don’t make walkability to good food the deciding factor for where you live. The quality of neighbors in your building is the most important, then neighborhood feel, then proximity to job, then proximity to friends then the rest. You can take Uber’s everywhere. You won’t care how close you are to your favorite restaurant when you have party animal or crazy neighbors who weren’t interviewed by a coop board. That’s why I suggest uws. Either that or do your own research and interviews of the people who live in your building or live in a luxury condo building with older people. I have personally not done this back when I was in my early 20s and ran into nightmares including attempted break ins, NYPD doing drug raids every month etc. it might not even be criminal but just annoying people, complainers, party animals, people who don’t clean up after themselves and attract pests etc. So understanding who your neighbors are is critical because NYC has such an extreme mix of different types of people. The more you pay the less of the negatives you will experience. Or you can live in an area with strict coop boards so they will keep the rif raf out.

Not weird, you typically spend time where your friends and family are. But investing in a place to live is different. I will get better return once I need to sell my apartment on the uws vs queens. Plus I prefer the conveniences of living in the city. If you didn’t grow up here it’s different.
Tribeca

UWS.
I second this.
Avoid lower East / east village / Murray hill / kips bay. I lived in all these areas and they are great but more for younger and party vibes

Omg, you guys are literally us!! We should be friends 😃
Tribeca (and by extension Battery Park City) is the only right answer here since you can afford it
UWS or UES.
UWS for Whole Foods and trader joes
We fit this description and live in LIC near Court Square (our foodie tastes lean hole-in-the-wall/ethnic, so we appreciate the easy access to other parts of Queens).
Can get a 1br at the W condos downtown, close to Tribeca

How much are the W residence?

If you want quiet I suggest the UWS.

Tribeca!! I love it there so much, only if my budget was >4K…..

If you’re a foodie but like quiet try the West Village but further out towards the River, not near Christopher Bleecker or any of the main streets where NYU students are hanging out and partying all night! Also tribeca, battery Park, and FiDi Are good neighborhoods for people who want quiet. Most of the good food, if not all is downtown!
Williamsburg - great new buildings with fantastic amenities. Unbeatable food scene. Fun parks. Anything you could ever need and want all within 15 min walking distance
Chelsea
UWS / Battery Park City or West Village (likely not a high rise but lots to eat and see)
Tribeca, Battery Park, Gramercy, South Village or West Village.
Stay away from living on the avenues if you want it to be more quiet. Or just make sure you’re on a high floor and/or your bedroom isn’t street-facing.
UWS restaurants are mostly meh.
I just moved not so long ago, living near hudson between garment and chelsea. Great so far for everything. From what i realized, being near food doesnt matter too much. Metro is only 2.75 and everywhere. And if youre living in a high enough floor it shouldnt matter in terms of volume aside from direct neighbors. Im on the 19th floor and its very quiet right next to penn station.
We have a 1.5 BR for ~$4K- looking for a lease takeover in a luxury building in battery park. 33rd floor, views of Hudson River and Statue of Liberty from window, gorgeous neighborhood with lots of greenery and quiet. Near all subways.
DM if interested.
