Coach
Try practicing with the blanket and putting it on and off during awake times like in the evening. Tuck in stuffed animals together etc. to get a lot of reps.
Every kid is different obviously but something that has worked really well for us is getting my 2.5 year old a full-size floor bed. She can have all her stuffed animals, plenty of room to roll around, and she has a big queen/sized comforter. She got to pick out her own sheets, pillows, blankets, etc. She still has the occasional nightmare but sleeps great like 95% of the time
Yeah, you just gotta keep experimenting until something works or until it clicks with her. I tell my toddler, "If you wake up hot, move the blanket off of you. If you wake up cold, pull the blanket over your body." And obviously demonstrating can help while saying lines like this
A 5 lb weighted blanket did the trick for us at that stage! He’s 7 now and still loves it
