I always take my birthday off from work. I pamper myself.

You are just like me, and I honestly feel taking the day off work is the best way to celebrate one's birthday.
I've never cared about having people at work know my birthday or observe it. We have a family celebration of our birthdays and that's what I prefer. I go to work like it's any other day, which it is, of course. And that night with the family we'll have a cake and presents.

This is so cool, I only do mine with close friends, my family are far away and honestly birthdays are more special when they’re spent with the family.

My workplace doesnt do anything special but people can take personal day off if they want to be away.
Some companies are giving day off on your birthday though

This is a pretty balanced setup, having the option to take a personal day if you want, without any pressure to celebrate at work. I’ve also heard of companies that give people their birthday off automatically, and it does sound like a nice perk.
I always take my birthday off, as do most of my colleagues. I like to use the day to do things I actually enjoy. If you don’t take the day off, our boss usually does some sort of little celebration for you—but I don’t want all that hoopla at work, haha.

I like how you make the day about yourself and what you enjoy and yeah, skipping the office hoopla makes sense a lot.
