Job relocation expenses are no longer tax-deductible thanks to last month’s republican bill and this change is going to personally cost me several thousand dollars. But hey, at least now the idle rich will be able to inherit up to 22 million dollars completely tax-free.
Sorry, no sympathy.
I’m the head of a creative department and I make anti-republican statements on social media every damn day. On my personal account that doesn’t reflect my agency’s views. Big deal. I have the baseline ethical capacity to respect the people who disagree with me, and I suspect your boss is the same way. Multiple viewpoints make any department stronger and better-rounded. Maybe you’re uncomfortable expressing your true views, but you’re inflating things a bit to say admitting your Republicanism is a ‘risk’. Being openly gay in the 60s was a risk. Being a creative republican, while anomalous, is not
Republicans are not a protected group. Don't pretend this is an actual problem that jeopardizes your job. Click the Facebook snooze button and forget it
You should definitely call the police
I’m cool with it
Empathy is required trait of a creative director and one that's missing from the current Republican administration. So, yeah, I salute your boss.
Anti Republican or anti current administration? Because what’s going on goes much deeper than party and I salute brands, agencies and leaders that have the balls to speak up about it
you're feeling persecuted. lol.
I thinks it’s unprofessional to impose political viewpoints when you’re the face of a company, regardless of political affiliation
Just don't be a Republican (bad person).
I think it's wonderful and would actively look into working for a person with both morals and balls.
I think ECD1's reply is spot on. EVERYONE is free to express their views, specially on their personal social media channels. You're saying he shouldn't, and don't even know if you realize that. I get that you're one in a hundred in this industry, but you have to own it instead of preemptively complaining about something that didn't happen.
I think it’s foolish in our industry (and many others) to voice political views publicly. I got so sick of reading a specific commercial director’s political rants in Facebook, it made me not want to work with him again. It just made me dislike him. So yeah...he has every right to voice his personal politics on his personal social media page. And I have every right to think he’s a dick and hire another director. If you think this kind of behavior can’t have professional consequences, you’re an idiot.
If you’re working in any big city, particularly NYC, you are inside a massive echo chamber of liberalism. And that’s where advertising lives. I know plenty of conservatives in the industry who keep off social media. Why bother? Just do your job. If your boss wants to blow his horn, that’s his earned right. And why you thought you’d get any sympathy on a sight built for anonymous complainers is beyond me
C'mon? You ask that here? You already know the answer.
It's only a matter of time before someone is sued. It's also pretty likely that liberal views will cost an agency or two an account as most business leaders are Republicans. I avoid political discussions online.
You know that it’s hard being a single white man in the country nowadays right?
Unfortunately, while liberals preach tolerance, it's only tolerance for their viewpoint. If democrats felt uncomfortable with the post it would be chaos, but since it's slandering someone they don't agree with and making republicans feel uncomfortable it's ok.
Best advice is get used to liberals being an unfair group of people and just be quiet when they're raving about politics. If you speak up you will be attacked.
I’d go to HR and report them.
CD2 - I think that's a little strange and unprofessional on your part. You can't see past his personal views to focus on the quality of his work? In any case, sure, someone might react like you or the OP, but nothing tragic is going on this situation. Sounds like the OP has thin skin.
