If this city feels expensive, it may not be for you.
But there are countless cities that have beaches, cities, and nature while allowing you access to good food and being a few steps away from Starbucks and other stores.
You haven’t lived many places in the US if you think those areas of NYC are not expensive.
Agree, I pay $3600 for an alcove studio but my bf moved in this year so he’s been helping out with money. We’ve been pretty good about not spending too much on eating out, cooking etc. I also don’t really spend money on clothes or shoes anymore since I mostly wfh. We do splurge a bit on vacations tho. Eventually will be planning to move to Vegas where COL is cheaper and will move into a paid for house from my parents.
That’s why god invented air conditioning.
I pay $2500 as a single person and agreed $6k is too much. Maybe get a cheaper place?
Yeah, people who pay attention to details aren’t fun at parties, ignorant people are more fun.
That’s why it’s so expensive, like you said, you love it. if you like something others would too, supply demand. But 6k is a lot, try 2k.
wow...I thought rent here in Melbourne Australia was HIGH lol...I can only imagine how beautiful your apartment is though for that amount..I am planning a trip to USA and Europe and am doing a private DJ party for my friends wedding in Paris so that is definately in February 2025 but am looking forward to time in NYC..
some are better some are worse
I pay $5,900 but for a 2 bedroom.
It may be time to save up for a down payment on a place and then rent it out for CF
There’s more to New York than the city. Have you considered Westchester or update ?
Have you tried not paying $6k in rent
I feel the same way…. I want to move from a 1br to a 2br now that we have a baby and rent is literally double what we pay (for context we live in StuyTown and absolutely love the community and want to stay there but getting another apt there for $6k just feels outrageous) so far we’ve been making it work but if we have any other kids, it’s going to be really hard, but I’m not yet ready to give up life in the city.
It’s definitely expensive but I feel oftentimes people move here and think they need to be living a specific lifestyle. 6k a month is insane. You can easily look for cheaper apts in different neighborhoods giving u more disposable income. The apartment rent is suffocating u, it’s all downstream. Look at queens or Brooklyn
