My firm’s Unlimited PTO policy claimed its latest victim after a senior analyst was down-bucketed for taking two weeks off for his wedding. He didn't check his emails while he was in Europe, and management used that lack of availability to justify dropping his bonus tier by $15k. I’m supposed to take ten days off in October for a family situation, and the anxiety of what it will cost me is making me want to cancel the trip entirely. How do you actually handle vacation time?

My advice speaking from experience:
- check emails every night except the wedding
- be on a first name basis with the person who makes these decisions and communicate expectations
- coordinate with co-workers to cover part of your workload if possible

Done correctly they won’t notice your absence, let alone punish you for it.

This is terrible advice. Enjoy your wedding and honeymoon. If a company were to fire me for taking 2 weeks off to get married and enjoy my honeymoon, I wouldn't want to work for them anyway. Life is about more than just work.

I don’t take 2 weeks off back to back

I’m a Director and I do and my VP just got back from two weeks in Italy.

Now, it’s not common, but if approved, I’m not using jt against someone. It’s a weak move.

Over the last couple of months I’ve interviewed for a number of jobs and made it to second and third round interviews but never got an offer. My last interview was on Monday and I got feedback that I did not get selected because it did not seem like I was a a team player. Ive got three interviews coming up and l am wondering how I can improve my chances of getting an offer. Any ideas are welcome. I need a new job like yesterday.

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?

Have any of your managers ask you to track every single hour you spent? It’s been pain of me for a long time. 1) sometimes I forget what exactly have I done for the day to reach 8. 2) some tasks take more time than managers’ expectation due to follow up, investigating, etc. and if you put more hours than then expected, they will then ask why.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.
