Who let the staff in here?
I’m a non-equity partner
You need a new flying formation you trust. Don’t treat partnership as a finish line. It’s the beginning. I would say you’re better off taking a year or two longer but finding the right flying formation … it will set you up to succeed longer term.
Mentor
There’s always “too many people waiting”. That’s part of the game and waiting is the worst policy. Flying formation where you’re least miserable is the best recipe for rebuilding.
Partners need to be accretive to the firm.
Create your own flying formation. Sell high margin work that clients want. Develop people that want to work with you and deliver the work you sell.
Find adjacent formations to partner with that are less cut throat and more collaborative - typically where you have complimentary skills and competencies
Pivot - will be tough to keep the reputation you built if you hate what you do / current group makes you feel you have to behave in a way that is not in line with your values
These days path to partner is more like a ride through a Halloween funhouse, anyway. Do the good work that lights you up and that you’re good at. The other things will follow.
Don’t waste your time flying with shitheels. You’ll notice that when really good leaders move, gravity follows and everyone benefits.
You just need to determine what’s more important to you, Progression or Mental Health. Obviously, there’s a time element to that question too ie can you suck it up until you make equity partner and then move or are these long term decisions.
Pie eating contest - I would have to stick with the same group for a bit
Watch out for the black hawks
