I’m a first year associate in an area of practice I really like. People at my firm are nice, but I’m not challenged. I’m thinking of finding new opportunities since my salary is below market, firm policies are unclear and I’m not challenged. Any advice on finding new positions while I’m so junior?

Any NYC big law firms heard anything about target hours being prorated this year? My firm has 2K target that was cut to 1800 in 2020 for Covid. So far no word on whether it will happen again, given that we’re still remote and challenges WFH (especially for associate parents) are still the same.

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.
