My neighborhood has little mini reading libraries and I am preparing myself to put some of their favorite childhood books in there (total transparency: getting a little teary as I write this)
I’m trying to keep like 1-2 plus a few of the more classic ones (I loved this one when I was little and so did you kind of books). But we also made a special book about our kids and dog and their adventures, so ones like that are in our keep pile
Rising Star
You and your kids can choose a charity, school, or local library to donate the books to. Have them help you pick which books to pass along. It helps the parting process when you know they'll be loved and enjoyed by someone else who can appreciate them ❤️
Put them in boxes and give them away on Facebook or donate them.
My challenge is how do I decide what to keep vs throw away. I have 3 little kids, different ages, and any sorting exercise becomes a science experiment.
Struggling with this too, but my youngest is now 8, and we're swapping bedrooms this summer, so its time. My plan is to keep no more than one box of books...a few because they're special to an individual kid and maybe a few classics for my hopefully-someday grandkids to start with. Doing the same thing with baby/toddler toys and clothes. 90% of them need to go, but each kid can have a save box. I'll cry I'm sure, but trying to focus on my dream of no-clutter bedrooms for my kids and an organized storage space in my garage.
Have you had to deal with your parents' junk yet? Personally, I did not enjoy filling multiple dumpsters with "sentimental" junk.
We kept a few favorites, sent many to younger cousins, and donated the rest to charity.
I'm the exact opposite, I donate/toss everything the SECOND I can. What helps me is, will they/I need this at any point in 6 months? If the answer is no, it's gone. Both my husband and I received so much stuff from our parents they saved we have PTSD. We take videos of them showcasing their art, etc. and talking about it vs "hey you're 30 take this huge box of hundreds of papers we no longer want"
If you haven't used it in the last 365 days, just donate or throw it frees up space and energy!
Take pictures or videos of them for memories then list on your local FB moms group or buy nothing group. I love giving things away in my community and it makes me happy that other people are getting use out of them. The extra space created is also nice for new books or toys! It’s not the physical thing that matters, it’s the memories.
