I have a kitchen aid dishwasher that I bought four years ago from Best Buy and it is holding up great. The biggest things I looked for in the dishwasher was a sanitizing cycle and a control lock. The latter so it doesn't accidentally get turned on by bumping into it.
Washing machine I have a Samsung top loader with no agitator. Allows a large amount of clothes to go in, and being a top loader you can leave the lid open for the washer to dry out between loads. This helps reduce the chance of mold starting and no bad smells.
Check out Fisher and Paykel dishwashers that pull out like cabinet drawers. Super convenient and you can run a true half load at a time!
I used to recommend Bosch, but have had soooo much trouble and had to replace every Bosch appliance ('fridge, range, microwave and dishwasher) we had over a 3 year period. If you do buy them, get the extended warranty.
These days we have a Miele dishwasher, and it's awesome. We got the base model, and it's wonderful. No problems with it at all (watch now, it'll probably explode tonight 😂).
Fisher & Paykel that someone else recommended are also great, we know plenty of people that have them and love them.
Thanks! I thought Miele would prob be too upscale for us. I had a bad rental apt with Fisher & Paykel so have an unfair bias against them. Will def get the extended warranty.
Where did you buy yours from / how did you get it installed?
Thanks!
Check out Abt, they are in Chicagoland but I believe ship nationwide. Amazing inventory and customer service (you can email with someone if not local). And for brands, get a Bosch dishwasher. You may have to wait a bit for inventory but it’ll be worth it.
I hired a local plumber to install dishwasher. I could.have done it myself but just didn't have the time with travelling. He only charged me $175 for an hour of work which also included adding a garbage disposal.
Whenever I need a major appliance, I always go to my local appliance dealer. Not only does it support local business, but they also offer better quality products and they stand by them. I trust their recommendations far more than some random teenager at Lowes.
Best Buy is great and makes the install and haul away very simple. I just picked up a higher end washing machine from them.
Consumer reports goes nuts over Bosch
We bought all our current kitchen appliances (LG 'fridges, Blue Star range, and the Miele dishwasher) from build.com - delivery was ridiculously fast, then I had a local plumber install it. I could have installed it myself, it's very easy, but I had the plumber in doing other work so had him do it. He had it fully installed and doing it's first wash in under 30 minutes. I did notice afterwards however that you get a longer warranty on any Miele appliances if you use a Miele authorized installer - when you register the appliance you can put in the authorized installer number and that activates the longer warranty. No problems so far with it though, and on a "bad" day (like Thanksgiving) we can run it 3-4 times. It's yet to let us down. I'd go with Miele or Neff for all the appliances if I had the money (and no, I'm not on commission 😂).
Love the 3rd row on top to put silverware. Opens up more space on bottom for bigger items like mixing bowls. We loved our Bosch in the past. Have had 3 Samsungs (new homes, not our choice) and issues with all of them including one that leaked and jacked our floors up.
Dishwashers have tons of issues as a rule. One of the most frequently broken appliance in the home. Basically it means even a Bosch will have issues with a significant percent of them. But they are still better than most.
Make sure you check noise level. We have a Bosch which is quiet and solid. When we sold our last house I put in a new cheap one (that looked good) to sell it. Wow was it loud.
This for sure. I think standard is 45db or lower is below conversation level and won’t be super annoying but really the lower the better.
