Don't be loyal but be professional for your own sake. If company walks you out same day then that's on them. Always protect your professional character.

We know how corporate works. They fire you on the spot (At Will) and at the same time, they expect you to give them 2 weeks notice . Make that make sense . Do not give loyalty to any company . Power to the people.
I agree, most of my previous companies said loyalty to the company will gain you advancement, increased salary, and many more perks.
That’s why being dropped by a company when you didn’t take any sick days (before Covid), told you, you’d advance at the company at a certain point, just for that point to be pushed back or given to someone else. And the worst of all, when your increase salary, which is supposed to be yearly, gets pushed back a couple months just to find out you just been laid off without any increase after the couple months.
Companies want you to be loyal to them? So companies don’t lose profits. Have you ever been told to train somebody in your job because of them increasing your department, or you being moved up another level? Just to be given a pink slip and have that person you trained to take over your job.
Loyalty goes one way with companies, they demand your loyalty, and cut you loose once they’re not profitable, find someone who they can get for less salary, or outsourcing your job to a different country. Just to increase company profits.
This is why a company will never define in writing, what happens if you get fired, get laid off, get replaced by a person or a machine or program. If they did, they’ll rewrite that promise and have you sign it before that action takes effect mostly in legalese, that a normal person don’t understand.
The only thing you might get is the minimum that the law requires the company to pay them when you’re dismissed. And even if there is no reason for you to be dismissed due to bad conduct. The company will make something up so they don’t have to pay the employees unemployment.
(I won those fights twice from different companies, proving that the companies lied and received unemployment, although future companies that were considering hiring me didn’t, because of negative comments they included in responses to, did they work for your company. Which is supposed to be illegal, but it happens anyway).
It’s better to leave a company to find a better position at another company, when your think your job is going nowhere, or your work lesson. or increases in your salaries are even less than you were told, or don’t come at all.
This is why most companies will let go an employee without prior notice to the employee so the employee can’t let other coworkers know that they are being let go for no reason.
Smaller companies may do that, but not major corporations. In fact, it may be better to work for a smaller company than a major corporation. Because smaller companies might actually take care of their employees compare the larger corporations that offer million dollar salaries or multimillion dollar balloon payments to leaving CEOs.
The major things CEOs do in large corporations, is to increase profits, and reduce expenses. And the fastest way to reduce expenses is to reduce the workforce.

Never give 2 weeks notice when you're leaving your job. As soon as you have a start date , just leave immediately. These companies do not give a damm about us.

Amen
Let’s all take career advice from a tax senior. 🙄
Only 80 hours a week? Luxury. I used to have to get up at six o’clock in the morning, clean my home which was an abandoned septic tank covered by a sheet of tarpaulin, eat a handful of hot gravel for breakfast, work 20-hour days for tuppence a month, come home late and upset Dad who would thrash me to sleep with his belt, and that’s if I was lucky!
Never? To any?
I realize you’re a tax senior and all you have ever known is slavery, but some places (or at least the people working there) can be worth a pinch of it

People will listen to me and thank me later .
I’m honestly not understanding what the problem is lol. If they let you go early, you’re still getting paid for 2 weeks. And you don’t have to work them lol. This is a win win situation.
That's the point. It's implied that they were NOT getting the pay. Otherwise, it would have been awesome and the guy would not look so damn sad. What planet are you calling from?
The image I project and my actions are reflective of me. Regardless of how companies representative act I will give 2 weeks notice.
A colleague of mine and I were debating if he should provide a 2-week notice, as he had just accepted a new job elsewhere. I suggested that it would be the 'right thing to do' and the professional thing to do'. His concern was being fired during the 2-week time period. That scenario had never occurred to me. Turns out this was a REAL possibility. He left one day 'on the spot' following verbal notification to our boss.

He did good .
The world is smaller than one might think and your colleagues will remember your behaviors. Good news is that each and everyone of us gets to decide what type of personal code we get live our lives by. If we live our lives by the lowest denominator we come across, then you will become that person. If we live our lives by the highest denominator we come across, excellence is at hand And a role model to others.
Some places fire you when you give notice. Pay attention and act accordingly. Some people can’t afford missing the paycheck sadly.
I say never burn bridges because you never know if you will need them or they will be the deciding factor at another dream job you want- But with that being said, if the environment has become too toxic, I say get out. You will be most likely marked un-hireable either way.
