Was there last year. Finally decided “screw it. I am done”. Told my boss I wasn’t quitting, but if they came for heads, offer mine up. Then I went back to serving my clients and building my team. But with no stress. I didn’t need to worry about firm politics, stress over numbers, suck up to anyone, etc. eventually my boss called and after a little negotiation, I’ll have a graceful exit with all pomp and a nice garden leave as a financial cushion.
Congrats on such a bold move. Curious what stopped them from just giving you the axe immediately? I’m surprised it was so cordial. They owed you nothing
Been there done that. However every situation and person is different.
In my case, sold the shares. Took time for the fam. Went back to the drawing table. Opportunities flew in. Finally just started a new consulting. Fast forward 1 year. + 20 people. Loving it.

In the exact same mindset as OP. I’m ready to pull the chute and take early retirement.
Structure exit so you get paid even quiet quitting so you get a package. Never leave empty handed. Then take time to talk to companies, cast a wide net and you will learn about what’s important to you in the process. You made partner so you’ve got what it takes to achieve what you want, hard part is figuring out what you want and you need a free mind to do so.
I am going to see how to make that work. Never had to quite quit before, a new skill for me.
What about just working on your network and building stronger relationships with buyers. I feel in the hustle i don’t give that enough time and effort. Becomes transactional.

Did we ever love this though? Headwinds in the market bring out poor behaviors everywhere.
Didn’t love traveling Monday-Thursday/Friday every week for 15 years. Things are a lot better today for all of us from that POV.

I think FMLA is up to 6 mos.
Before leaving it’s worth figuring out what your next steps are. Take time for family and self? Start a your own business? Go into something completely new?
Then you know what you’re moving towards rather than running away from.
