Prioritize ruthlessly. "Everything " will never be finished. So get "essential " handled, followed by "really important".
Set alarms for yourself. Want to leave at 5? Phone goes off at 4:30, 4:45, and 4:55. 4:55 is when you stop everything and pack up. Again, be ruthless. If leaving is important, do it.
The may be a day or two where you miscalculated and you have to bring something home, make some early morning copies, or play catch up some other way. It's part of learning a new skill. Keep practicing and you'll get better at it.
But accept that some things will not get done. That's OK. Some other things, that aren't getting done now, will suddenly become possible.
Good luck! It's a tough thing to learn, but possible!

Thank you. It is easy to get caught up in work and not leave at a decent time (especially in the winter, because it is too cold to do anything else). I have to start making myself leave.
I switched to going to school early. I get way more done before school when my mind is fresh and the campus is quiet. I've also learned to have the kids help out. I used to do all of the stuff that kids could easily do, but now I only do the things they can't which has saved me tons of time.

I have seriously thought about going in earlier and working on getting grades in earlier in the day before my brain's done.
I set the alarm for 15 minutes before I intend to leave for the day. When it goes off I try to find a logical stopping point and write a post it to remind myself how to pick up where I left off. I put the project where it will be easily seen the next day. Then I start locking up and shutting down the things I am responsible for doing. I guarantee the work you left will be waiting when you return the next day.

That is what my husband says. My problem is I always think just gotta do this one more thing.
I wish I could help. I have the same problem. As an art teacher most of the prep & grading must happen at school. I used to stay until 9, 10, 11 my first few years. I am usually able to leave by 7:30pm now...

I don't understand how some people can leave as soon as the bell rings.
