Have you ever been to a p&g meeting. They don't need more ideas. They need less process for agency people to be tied up in.
all clients need to request this. agencies load up on account billing and skimp on creative/production.
P&Gs shit is starting to stink.
They create all the issues they complain about. It’s like your kid coming to you and saying their room is messy and they can’t find anything.
Also, it’s time for clients to get real about pricing. They have fewer and fewer people and using agencies as staffing because they can get rid of them with no liability.
This is a very well intentioned and correct opinion but they need to follow up this request by letting creatives do good work
^ Literally never done or heard of that at 5 shops in 15 years! This is incredibly offensive as a general statement! And, I've been the only one to be laid off when account was lost because creative team was sprinkled around on other business. Such a disrespectful comment to so many I know and myself who care deeply about our teams and take pride in our work.
And love how 360i is posting with their company name only while sharing their expertise on my expertise and value. Wonderful colleagues
good PMs and Producers can handle 90% of the tasks that Account currently handles. But they then can pivot and steward through the work as well. 2 roles for the price of one!
360i 1 thats because they control the client money at most agencies. so they pay themselves first. if there is not enough budget for the rest of the team they get laid off.
ive worked with account people that would never invite anyone else to client meetings/calls so she could bill all of the hours on the account first. then after she made sure she was 100% billable she would dole out the remaining hours to the rest of the team to do the actual work. and ive worked with account leads that at the end of the month if their account team wasnt 100% billabe they would search for closed jobs that had margin left or were under budget and add their time to those jobs even if they didnt touch them. this practice then undermines the PM/Production team and is super common at large agencies. i have never worked with an account person in 15yrs that wasnt more concerned with self preservation than the work/client.
Don’t get excited peeps. This is just another excuse for cost cutting...wonder if they are ready to cut their process for less account people and then still pay more for creative talent. Cutting a couple of AEs won’t get them a creative team...much less an award winning creative team.
We wouldn’t need so many account people if every idea we brought to a client didn’t have to survive 18 months worth of reviews by 30 different frightened, unimaginative clients. Maybe start there.
They should be equal or more but not removed, the P&G process is riddled with shitty account work that I’m positive no creative or producer will want to do. P&G needs to put the money where their mouth is if they actually want to make this happen.
I wish that was the case at my last position as the only account person on 3 brands with 3 different brand managers as clients. I was DROWNING in insanity at AE level work and would start director level work after 9pm
Sounds like your agency has a serious staff allocation problem
I wish more of my clients thought this way. Seems like it’s usually the opposite
@W+K1 so true. We had SOPs on how to write SOPs. The amount of process there is nuts. But it’s better than a lack of process like I’ve experienced elsewhere.
@Publicis 1
It’s because they schedule so many pointless meetings. They have to work when everyone is gone and meetings aren’t on anyone's calendars.
Account people are the ones who survive even tho they give client no expertise and no value.
Producer here. I have enough shit to do without having to do an account persons job too. I'm not going to spend straight weeks of my life in P&Gs focus groups thanks.
May every other client follow-the-leader on this. PLEASE let this become a movement. My group: 12 account people, 5 creatives.
I used to work at one of P&G’s agencies. A local smaller brand division of P&G. We had 5 account people (coordinator to supe level) and only one creative. Maybe two, I forget.
If they need less account people, why are Account people always working around the clock? In all my jobs account has been the last in the office all the time. Creatives definitely work crazy too, but seems to ebb and flow more
@360i 1
100 percent agree. They offer no expertise on anything.
