One of my friends is trying to start his career in IT after a non IT job for 5 years.Is this possible to switch now??

Some background:

he has B. Tech degree in CS and was preparing for govt exams with some non IT job.

he was really good with Tech in college and had participated in codechef national semi final level rounds, had gate score of 1100, e litmus score of 99 percentile ,he is good with maths too.

Please provide your suggestions and guidance.

This is one time selection and not reversible.
