Over the last 2 years there's been multiple times where I've invested a good amount of time to set up my AI development environment and get up to speed with the "optimal" way to do things, just for all of that to become irrelevant later because of improvements/changes. This feels very frustrating and like I wasted my time. Has anyone else gone through this? Any tips?

Yeahh, at this point I avoid putting much effort into keeping up with the AI paradigm du jour beyond minimum company requirements, since, as you say, it's so damn chaotic, and anyhow all these methodologies have just been increasingly desperate ways of trying to get around LLMs being LLMs :P

I'm not sure what you mean optimal? I use codex and any changes that have occurred to the tool are typically improvements that sped up my work alot. In my opinion the job of a software engineer is to adapt and always try new ways, along with to create code that you can easily reuse. In my experience, software engineers have always wanted to automate as much as they could. As they said to me before, if your not automating many of your tasks then you are doing it wrong. But now when AI does automation, well now Software Engineers become unglued. You need to get used to testing new ways, new features, and new tools. Find the best tool for each task. What works, continue to use it. What does not work throw that out and use a tool that works for the task you are trying to complete. The world of software engineering as we knew it a few years ago is gone and not coming back.

I'm in complete agreement with you. I also don't want my post to come off snotty. I actually feel the same way that the OP feels, but maybe in a different view point. As I don't blame AI, but I do blame the corporations for their short sightedness that has led us down this rabbit hole as many companies have lost their own humanity for chasing the new gold rush. Because of this I will never fullfil my dream of becoming a developer with a company. The lucky are the ones that are already in that mid to SR level position. I am frustrated with AI but it's the new normal. People must find a way to push through as what is coming is clear but nobody wants to mention it. I hope at bare minimum I can offer some wisdom in a corporate political world that has lost part of its humanity. As for the OP, we are all frustrated and many are out of work and some are suffering. With the AI take each day as it comes and be ready to adapt to this ever changing technology as it should be treated as extremely important.

Hi Everyone - Hope you are doing well.

My wife and me just moved to NYC (from Chile). We are trying to find her a Job in NYC, but its been hard through LinkedIn. Do you know any other ways we could try to get at least interviews? She is trying to join a business develop. team, ideally in energy, but obviously opened for other industries as well. She's 5 years of exp. w/ background of M&A in EY and Business development in Energy.

Would appreciate any hints for this!

Thanks in advance!
