In the process of interviewing for a strategy/Corp dev position at an activewear/athleisure company and they want me to think of a couple tangential industries that may have companies for acquisition and do a write up. I’m a Senior BSA/AML/Fraud Analyst at a regional bank, 100% remote, have bachelor’s degree in business, 6 YOE in my field, TC is about $60k, & I live in KY. I've been thinking about moving from working at banks to a fintech because I feel like that’s the only way to increase my TC. I feel like I've been severely underpaid for the type of work I do even with the education, experience, etc; however, cost of living is extremely low in KY. Any advice?

When negotiating salary and being asked if you currently get a bonus, would you "lie" if it helps you to get paid more? Is this considered taboo and is there any way a potential employer could find out if you weren't truthful about your current salary/bonuses? Is it illegal if you were to accept an offer for that potential employer to question you about your previous companies pay structure?
