Anyone negotiate severance?
Hi All,
Looking to make the move from working in industry to big4 and was curious as to what level and pay I might be worth?
I have 10 years experience out of uni, as well as completed CPA and MBA. I have a experience in managing entire finance function of small/medium entities, but most notably solid corporate finance experience/strategy leading refinance exercises, debt raising, hedging/treasury strategy etc…Would be looking for something in deal advisory / M&A / CFO advisory etc….thanks Deloitte EY PwC @

In college, made $10.40 as a manager of 120 employees at Wal-Mart, took a cut to $9.75 at BestBuy to sell phones instead.
Bro, I went from bud light to natty light. Had to ration myself down to 4 a night from 6. Times were tough.
Just took one to leave Amazon. Consider how much you’d pay to have good wlb and if you’re willing to drop that then you should have no regrets 👍
My WLB honestly isn’t bad now. I just feel like my current role isn’t what I expected. I was previously an SM at a large company. I took an IC role in tech (with sizeable pay increase) with plan to grow and work back towards people management. Now that I’ve been here for a few months, the role isn’t what I expected. My team’s work isn’t impactful and I feel I’m stagnating.
I am now considering another SM offer with a tech company. I would be leading a team again and feel the role is a better fit for my professional goals but it’s a pay cut and I’m having trouble swallowing that.
Went from travel nursing taking home about 20k a month to my current job in consulting where I’m salaried at 85k. It’s definitely been a transition but I’m confident I’ll be able to get back to that salary and higher in the coming years and I enjoy my life and job a lot more now.
Little bit of luck and a lot of job apps lol
Took it when I entered into consulting at previous firm. Went from Senior Director to Senior Manager. Regretted at times, but back when I joined, industry to consulting precedent didn’t exist and early years were tough.
Would I do it again? No. But I’m better because of it.
Took a pay cut to switch to my current role although I had another better paying offer 😭😭 feel bad once month or so :P
But overall it's a good role as I wanted to move into Product management since Consulting got kinda boring for me
Coach
Took a 30k pay cut because that job was going to cause my depression and possibly my marriage. Worth the no longer biz class flights every time we travel life style.
I’m used to making 110-125k TC at my old job for 6-7 years but I quit a few months ago due to the toxic environment plus it was shift work 12-16hrs days, not challenging, and very little chance of growth within the company. So now at 30, I’m doing a career path change and finishing my Safety degree by next year.
Thankfully I got a job offer for an EHS role last month and will start next week. I’m not sure how I will feel but I’m pretty excited to land the role so I can gain experience & knowledge to further my career path. It’s a Safety Compliance role and the TC is about 95k, no regrets at all for leaving the toxic place and pursuing a new career path. I know I will get back to that pay and more.
Went from around 130k to 110k to have a better name on resume and to mildly pivot into a “more option” industry. It was a bit tough at first, had to adjust spending etc.
Went from $40k+ in a field unrelated to my degree and interests to $35k entry level at a small company doing neat work. Quickly gained raises from there. I had a few months with no job in between though so I don’t know if that counts as a pay cut. I don’t regret it. I needed a change since the work was terrible, menial, boring, and going nowhere.
I just went from $300k to $275k… I hated my boss. I’m so happy now.
I switched company/roles from a partner sales director ($174K base/$274K target) to an AE role at a start up ($160K base/$320K target). It’s a much better fit, I’m much happier in the role, and I’m going to end up making more money, at least this year. The reduction in title hurts my pride a tiny bit, but it also means a lot fewer internal meetings. As a director I had to sit in on all sorts of crap I get to skip now
