Went from Wall Street to IT Consulting. Got a much better work life balance in the earlier years and could work from home at least half the time. However with the current pandemic I think even Wall Street can WFH as well. Might considering hopping back some time.
Switched from higher education to advertising and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I took a risk, leaving my full time job to go to graduate school (hello student loans) and then had to take an internship in my late 20s at an advertising agency to get myself started. The age gap between myself and the other interns was noticeable but the experience I got was invaluable, and I’m really happy with where I am now. I’m so glad I made the switch. Even on the longest days, I absolutely love what I do.

Yes, left the military after 9 years. It knocked my earning potential down a peg for a bit having to start over but it was the best decision at the time.

I went from audit to sales & trading. Took me around 2 yrs of internal networking to land a transfer to that junior front-office role. If I didn’t get it, I would have went back to school and gotten a MBA.
Went from offshore oil and gas engineer to PA. Be ready to pay dues again as a new junior.

Went from working on drilling rigs (18 to 22) to uni (22 to 27) to big four tax (27 to 29) to internal career change to software engineering (29 to 33 current) and applying to MSCS programs. Once I’m done with that, I plan on getting bored again and moving to something else, possibly airline pilot or stay at home father.
I went back to school for accounting (from nonprofit PR/communications) in my early 30s. Definitely happy with my choice.

Switched from insurance to accounting in my 40s. Not sure it was the best move, but here I am.
Pharmacist to CFP/financial advisor after I realized I had a lot more to offer as a financial planner...plus it is nice to enter finance after FIRE because the part that isn’t great about finance is the sales culture and sales pressure...but if you already have your finances on point, it frees you up to enjoy the work and put people first. I wish I had made the jump earlier!
