You can calculate this yourself pretty easily — find the daily lift ticket price at the places you’re considering, multiply by number of days you expect to be in each place, and compare to the ikon price (I think $900 now for the base pass). If you’re planning on skiing for more than a week total across at least 2 or 3 mountains, it’s probably worth it. If just one mountain or for less than 7 days total, probably not (season pass or just daily tix)
I’ve been using last year’s prices as a baseline, I’m guessing they won’t change too much from that — though I guess who knows in COVID times
I got an ikon base pass last year and got 2 trips (7 ski days) out of it. I was on a 3rd ski trip when Alterra shut everything down in March the day we arrived. Normally the break even point is around 7 days/season (figure ~$100/day), but it’s probably less this year. Most mountains haven’t released single day lift ticket pricing info, but with limiting the number of people on the mountain this year, I bet a single day lift ticket is closer to $150 this year (so 5 days to break even with ikon base pass). If you buy the pass and don’t use it at all, you get the amount you spent as credit for a pass next year. Also look in to Epic, same idea just different resorts. Epic is also slightly cheaper
FYI some mountains aren’t allowing single day ticket purchasing at all, some restricting holidays to season pass holders only, others requiring you to buy a vacation package at a hotel (staying with friends or Airbnb makes you SOL). There is the ikon 4 day if you are only skiing a few days during non peak times. If it’s peak times/ during blackout dates, you might no other choice than to bite the bullet and buy full ikon (my mom just had to do this for a family trip over Christmas to see my brother)
