If suggest a method like Essential Elements (or other compatible method) that has an individualized, online companion that allows the student to hear and mimic his/her instrument being played well.

I’m doing it right now and it’s been a challenge with cameras off. But we are using flipgrid and smart music to help. The kids are progressing forward despite the challenges.

Try 8notes.com. You can switch to screen share for the student to follow along or send as a pdf to encourage practicing. Percussion is limited but I would stick to learning rudiments, anyway. GL

I think it’s possible. I’m moving forward with it. I’ve narrowed down instrument choice to flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone for the first 9 weeks. Maybe longer.

We did it. We’re about a chapter and a half behind (we use Measures of Success and it tooks our first-years a whole semester to finish the first opus). It’s a smaller class than we would have recruited in a normal year. If you commit to not losing sleep over things you can’t control, and you accept the reduced pace, it can be done, and it prevents a large hole from forming in your program.

Any tips on leaving a firm “correctly”? Was about to go “of counsel” with my firm of 6 years, but then another firm whose partners I really respect (and personally like) offered me a partnership position. I predict my current bosses will *flip* (cut off file access immediately, try to beat me to calling my clients, etc.), so how do I set myself up for a successful transition?

I joined fishbowl a month ago and while I’ve seen a couple contentious debates but I must say I’m pleasantly surprised at how respectfully ppl comment on this app even when disagreeing. Usually anonymity on the internet brings out the absolute worst in ppl; they type things anonymously that they would NEVER say in person smh. But I really haven’t seen horrible comments here. I wonder what makes this app diff frm others?

Is there any advantage to telling a company you are interested in working for in the future where you decided to accept an offer from? Or does it not matter? I accepted an offer a week ago with a great company (Company A) that for this season in my life seems like a great fit and only strengthens what I have to offer company B down the road. Company B just sent me a request for interview and I want to keep the door open with Company B but they were just very late in extending an interview.

Was reminded last week of my best off-the-wall response in class. True story.
MS Flute player: “ How do you trill a G?”
Me: “You have to write two books first.”
1. 10 seconds of silence until first lightbulbs go off.
2. 30 seconds until a percussionist went in for the “ba-domp-ding” on snare and cymbal.
3. End of class heard one student say “I still don’t get it.”
MS kids are awesome!
