So there’s this Creative Director that I met in passing years ago when I was working at an
e-commerce company. Then during the pandemic, I ended up working under him at another company, where another manager was my direct supervisor. After only 3 weeks of onboarding in a complex system, this other manager let me go. When doing this, she berated me as incompetent, insinuating I had misrepresented my capabilities.

Wtf! Are you being let go with others? Or did they give you any specific reason? My gut says that previous manager poisoned the waters for you and if that’s the case, not much you can do. If you don’t want to burn a bridge, personally I’d stay connected. If you want to go a step further, I’d send the CD a direct message about how you enjoyed working with them previously, wish them the best, and would appreciate any feedback on how you can grow from this experience. IMO, this industry is small, and I find the “kill them with kindness” technique helps in the long run. That being said…. You have every right to be pissed off and cut ties!! So sorry this happened to you!
