McKinsey & Company Hi everyone. Hope all is well.
Recently took the McKinsey & Company game (not sure if I have an interview yet but preparing nonetheless). It’s an entry level business analyst position and an entry level digital position and was wondering if anyone wanted to case prep with me. I’m willing to work on anyones time zone. (I’m located in Sydney, Australia).

So I asked today what I wanted which was to be included on the panel for future candidates or this guys round 2, and I was told, sure, I’ll ask the chair of the board and it shouldn’t be a problem. So yay! And even if they won’t invite, I spoke up and they heard me. I can’t control the rest. Thanks everyone!
Good for you! Honestly thats what matters. And the reality is sometimes things aren’t personal they just happen that way until something speaks up to create the change. Best of luck with your new boss 👏🏽👏🏽
Tricky situation. Maybe you will be brought in for subsequent rounds? But as you’re not currently c-suite it might seem presumptuous. It’s not like regular employees get to interview their future boss. A new one just shows up one day.
Yeah, I think that is a good cultural practice. I would have loved to have been in several of my former managers’ interviews, but it’s not something I have experienced often in my career.
Usually panel for candidate would include the big boss and the c-suite peers. If the candidate passes that, then next round would be meeting the rest of the team including yourself
Were any direct reports on the panel? Sometimes you can’t have them all. And sometimes companies don’t have subordinates below them.
No Im not being considered. Just awkward all around.
Well, I think it’s not atypical to interview the new potential boss I wonder how many interviews you can ask someone to go through. How many people interviewed the person? The skip level is a little bit different. I don’t understand why you would’ve been passed up for a skip.
I wanted to say that typically the board makes the final decision on who to hire, and they typically don’t care about direct reports opinions.
But I saw that your peer were brought in for a panel. You should ask recruiter about it, the scheduler might have just forgot about you
Yeah, maybe just ask like oh hey should I be in these meetings or not from a scheduling standpoint not a am I being left out on purpose thing. I hope OP isn’t being pushed out tho.
I would ask why...it couldn't hurt. Giving someone the benefit of the doubt, they just may have forgot to add you...
Just ask why.
Are your peers the same level as you or are they higher? It could be they just selected based on most senior roles.
Neither was I.
(Except not even csuite)
I think there should always be one “direct report” person on the interview panel
