Pretty unmotivated / anxious
I’ve never seen motivation so low
But then again nothing like a bear economy to reveal people’s true colours
What happened?
Unmotivated is not a good thing to be. If layoffs come its the unmotivated people who will get cut first. Layoffs are basically always performance based.
This is pretty tone deaf. Motivation in this context is highly tied to emotion here. It’s not like people are actively wanting to be unmotivated or as an act of rebellion. Some people are able to be more robotic or let things roll off their back (especially if you’ve been through this before), but this is new for most folks. And given the sharp contrast to how the firm felts just 1 year ago, understandable. I would encourage for people to chat with trusted mentor or work friend though (even therapist). M2 here is not completely wrong in that we can hope this is temporary and if you want to survive the tempest, a calm mind and keeping that fire in your belly may be your best defense.
