Some customers believe intimidation will get them results, but that’s not how it works. Today, a caller demanded a refund because his kids played a hockey match against older players and lost. While I understood his frustration, a game was played and that’s what he paid for, there’s no valid reason for a refund. He tried to outsmart me and escalated the matter, but in the end, I know his claim won’t succeed.

That's a new one! If you think about it, it's kind of brilliant in its awfulness. Kids used to learn something by losing a game, it would build character and all that. Now they get to hear their parent try to scam someone over it. What a world.

Sadly, that’s true. The world has its share of people who think bullying or being rude is the only way to get what they want.

A lot of people don't realize that I'm significantly more willing to help them if they are nice and pleasant, rather than rude and demanding. I will go above and beyond for kind and patient people. But I will be very… Strict with the rules if they give me attitude. Plus, I know the rules better than they do.

Exactly! I always try to stay nice with customers, because at the end of the day they’re calling for help. But when they act entitled and rude, it really gets to me. That’s when I feel like shutting them down, even though I know I have to keep it professional.

"My kid lost a game. I want a refund"

I'm sorry, sir. I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, I cannot refund a child. Have you tried the hospital where he was born? ;)

Lol. I wish I could have said that to him. Some people are unbelievable.

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.
