I think maybe you are talking about all your experience instead of what experience that is related to the role that you are applying too. I do think if the opportunity is there, talk about it all but mostly focus on your experience that’s related.
Some interviewers feel threatened or boxed in when they hear too much. Doesn’t mean you’re oversharing; it means they’re not asking sharp enough questions. When did you feel you shared too much? You might want to avoid too many details.
Overqualification can be an issue. Could be a bit much if you are going into too many details. The problem is if some interviewers are impressed, then how to know the difference before you start? Seems kind of a hard standard to figure out.
What kind of experience are you talking about? I wonder if it's less about your experience and more about your delivery? Are you super long-winded? I find that sometimes I have to learn how to talk about my experiences in a way that's more engaging, so it doesn't sound like I'm just droning on and on. I obviously don't know your interview style, but just a tip from my own experience!
I've heard that some interviewers become impatient listening to someone's experience, just because they've already seen their resume. And they'd rather know what the person can do in the position under discussion. If you're picking up clues that people aren't responding well to what you're saying, it might be a good idea to rethink your approach. Make it more about the future and what you can bring to their organization.
I’ve had interviews where people seemed excited about my skills, and others where they seemed almost dismissive. It's probably not you, though. It’s probably more about the interviewer’s mindset and maybe even their own insecurities.
Some interviewers to me are Jealous.
