Reminds me of the terrible 2000s. I was legit scared growing up in NYC. The last 10 years were very peaceful* (not that bad compared to pre 2010)

Christ. When will we realize that extended incarceration for violent crimes (in the vast majority of cases) and having the police around are good things? Every homicide/stabbing (that I’ve read) in the past year seems to have been committed by someone with prior violent offenses

And they will continue to be… until someone/something stops them.

Being followed home is one of my greatest fears as a petite Asian woman living in NYC. Even before the widely reported attacks on Asians. I am overly vigilant to the point that I will look behind my shoulder if I sense the same person behind me when I am a few blocks away from my apartment.

This attack is horrifying and magnifies the stress levels I already feel every day.

Same, I’m generally anxious about leaving my house at night and prefer to be indoors after sunset. Also a petite Asian woman here.

I just don't understand why this guy has been let out time and time again with those previous charges on his record.

Because we’re woke and won’t lay a heavy hand on crime on that basis that’s it’s racist. Cus you know, everything is racist.

Damn and they really want to build that megajail right there in the heart of Chinatown. So more incidents like this can happen?

Oh my god… this is just heartbreaking. What’s wrong with our system?

Woke loud minority makes the rules now and politicians have no balls to do anything about it

They need to bring back the triads to Chinatown for some street justice.

? At least they offered protection. Same with Italian mob. That’s why crime was low in mob controlled neighborhoods.

Lived here my whole life and I’ve never felt so unsafe. Criminals are no longer seen as criminals. Murder is swept under the rug. Disgusting.

I haven’t been on the subway in over a year. I was born and raised in LES and I can’t even ride my own subway line. We shouldn’t have to live in fear like this.

But there was no subway involved. She got out of a cab.

Given what has been happening to (Asian women) innocent people in NYC in recent months, I didn’t think I needed to clarify it with a “not literally”

like

I don't see what this has to do with the subway -- ?

like

I think OP meant to note this as another horrific murder conducted toward another innocent Asian woman similar to the recent subway killing.

How did he get inside the building without anyone noticing? And she didn’t hear him following? So sad

Got it. But it’s so unfortunate to see the video cap of him right behind her and think how the situation would have been different if she didn’t go inside.
