Stand comfortably in your skin. They didn’t hire you to know tech. They hired you to know people/business/operations. Own that. They need you more than you need them. You are exactly who you’re supposed to be. I am the head if HR in a tech firm. I understand. Happy to connect… you got this!
I have to say I’ve been in your shoes and I quickly found out that working for and with men is much better over working with women. They actually feel happy for you when you succeed and less drama! Wishing you the best
It is not fair to generalize like this. I have had good and bad managers and some happen to be female and some male. You deserve a great manager and you should focus on expressing your needs and asking questions to find the right manager and company for you.
You knew you were ready for the position because if you weren’t , you wouldn’t have had the will to put yourself in that role. Self-doubt can be the biggest setback in any new journey. That strong belief that you have within yourself , let that shine and dig deep because you know you got this !
Congrats trailblazer! 💕
Embrace the things that make you different, rather than focusing on trying to discover the common ground. A team benefits from conversations that consist of unique perspectives. You’ll be the only person at the table with certain points of view, but that doesn’t mean they’re wrong.
You’re in a very advantageous position.
Mentor
Show up, do the work, be a great leader and peer to your new team. Add value and earn trust to be valued - you are responsible to do the job not your gender. Hopefully that makes sense.
Trust in abilities. Lean on your experience. You aren’t the only one who has to remind herself. You got the role because you earned it!
Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement ! ❤️ I’ve worked for a couple places where it was a “boys club” so I’m trying not to let those experiences bias me before even starting! I’ve also never been the “first of” so I’m definitely nervous but really excited to get out of my comfort zone. It’s been a crazy last few years (3 layoffs since 2020, I’m sure that also has something to do with my imposter syndrome kicking in) and I feel grateful this opportunity came my way, so I want to make sure my heads in the right place so I can crush it. 😎
Just always remind yourself that they picked you, you’ve already proved yourself you have the job! Call out any boys club behavior bc I’m sure most of them wouldn’t even realize their actions.
You get to influence the trajectory of your role! Blaze those trails!!!
You’ve got this! Don’t overthink it and say things to yourself that you’d say to encourage a friend. We need to be more supportive of and believe more in ourselves. You are better than you think you are !
