A 3-day unpaid trial shift is lunacy. I love doing volunteer work, so important for the community. But not like that.
Right. It’s a big concern that they can’t trust themselves to interview and make decisions.

Sounds illegal. In some states, they allow unpaid trial shifts, if they are short. But if they contribute significantly to the business (which this sounds like it will), it needs to be paid. Look into the laws in your state.

Absolutely—your time is worth being paid. “Voluntary trials” are basically unpaid labor, and it’s not on you to prove your worth for free. Hospitality shouldn’t be exploiting people under the guise of “fitting the vibe.” Stand firm—any decent employer will compensate you.
