These days I get bored when cases linger on and on. On my way home, yesterday evening, l saw two older attorneys walking out of the courthouse with their attorney gear. They didn’t look very healthy and looked tired. I would like to know what keeps you fighting in your older age. Those two looked like they were in their late 60’s or mid 70’s. Don’t you get tired of the SOS?

This job takes everything from your life until it becomes the only thing in your life. Imho there are few sadder things than when a partner retires and comes back as counsel b/c they're have nothing else to do.

like

Great description. It also takes what you give it. I might be in the minority or honeymoon partner phase, but I'm loving what I do. And that's a risk factor. But goddang if I did this until I was 60-70 I'm sure I'd be tired out and my health aint gettin any better.

What do you think happens in other professions? Not everyone retires into the sunset. Plenty of folks retire and do a new job to keep busy. We have this fantasy that we retire and travel the world. I hope we all live it! Most don’t.

Life just lifes all of us lol

To those at V25 firms, how do you view your London office in terms of the quality of work we get and overall importance to the firm? Like is there a perception of us being a step down or ancillary to the big leagues of NYC or not? There’s generally a perception here that L&W and K&E are the only US firms where London can even begin to compete with stateside in terms of generating l work organically but would be interesting to know what you all think? Be brutally honest.

Anyone here deal with Phantom Share Agreements? Would that be in the wheelhouse for an ECVC lawyer? My BIL is being offered a job with a company and received a proposed phantom shares agreement. When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school
