I’d bet this is far from over, but good riddance to the greedy billionaires if the decision sticks. I’m sick of hearing about it.
The return on investment for stadiums is terrible for taxpayers and I’d gladly see my taxes going to actually beneficial projects. As a lifelong Bears fan, have fun in your toxic superfund site 👋🏻✌️
They are not entitled to some of the most premium land in the City without paying taxes on it. They want a massive handout. If they don’t want to pay their fair share (maybe not $100M/year, but certainly a large sum), then they can see how much money they can make building a stadium in a place nobody wants to visit.
Taxes are the price they pay for the privilege of their premier location and it could do a lot of good for the City. They’re overplaying their hand and coming off as ungrateful to Chicago, imo.
Anyone who believes this whole thing is anywhere close to being over, please contact me at 9am Monday because I have some beautiful oceanfront property in Kansas I'd just love to sell you.
Pro
Yeah I won’t believe it until they are moved in and playing games.
I’d say I won’t believe it till there is a shovel in the ground, but I could easily see them build half of the stadium in one spot, leave it and build in the other.
0 benefit to keeping them here sadly. They can make Indy’s taxpayer the sucker instead.
They DO want us to pay for stuff, and we are broke. So it makes absolutely no sense to. Doing that is a luxury that some states can afford.
Who would have thought in a battle between Chicago and Hammond Indiana that Hammond would win. Hammond is kind of dumpy, no one is going to want to spend the day taking in the sights but perhaps that was the bears goal..get everyone into the game and then get them out — easily. That’s where solider field sucked, getting in and out and off that peninsula was an ordeal to say the least.
Having lived in Hammond for 6 months that lasted a decade, I can tell you it's an utter shithole AND a toxic waste site.
Also hope there aren't any train tracks one would need to cross...
The McCaskeys just bought land that sits ontop of old slag piles, land fills, and is surrounded by the Midwest’s largest oil refinery.
Building there is going to take decades, if the construction happens at all.
Rising Star
The only land they’ve bought is the Arlington Heights property.
