I personally would not take an elected judgeship. You still have to do fundraising and politicking if you want to make sure you keep your seat.

I don't think it's crazy, if it's something you really want. If it makes sense for you to make this love, then you should do it!

Whoops. Meant to say move.
If you’re financially secure why not sounds like a good opportunity and you are interested in it
I was a (very) part time judge - I was appointed, the chief was elected - and while it was sort of interesting, I’d never want to give up my practice to do it full time. Depends on your jurisdiction, but for me, most of the matters were pretty boring, the lawyering was generally pretty bad, and there weren’t a ton of support resources.
Poorly written papers, not knowing or following local rules, not seeming to have spoken to their clients or glanced at the file before showing up in court. Just basically unprepared in every aspect of the word and when there was work product, it was not good.
I would take the position, OP. Depending on what the chancellorship entails—I can make an educated guess where and what you’d be doing—but if it is in your area it could significantly help you down the road. I was a restructuring attorney for 12 years and there are more than a few bankruptcy judges who went on to have lucrative careers after they retired from the bench.
