Hello all,
Would like to know specifically about Queer inclusion at SocGen Societe Generale. What is the attitude of mangers and HRs towards treating LGBTQ identifying candidates? Is company really inclusive or it’s just a lip service? Considering an offer with the company but being an out and proud Queer woman, super anxious and concerned.

Been in and out of pharma and consumer advertising for 25 years. I can tell you that your happiness at work doesn't come from what you work on as much as it comes from who you work with. I've been back in pharma for the past 8 years and have had ups and downs but right now I'm happier than I've ever been. I have good clients and a great team. Timelines and the workload are crazy but there's a great amount of pride and satisfaction that comes with the creative we produce. And you'd be surprised about how much talent there is in pharma. And our agency has been great about repelling the angry egos and cutthroat nature of consumer agency culture. Though there's always the feeling of cold corporate indifference in the larger agency structure, there's a lot of kindness and support within the agency. Which is why I'm in no hurry to leave pharma for "cooler creative."
Had me at "$$$$ is tempting", take the cash and see what happens. Worst case scenario you hate your life for a few years and get compensated handsomely for it.
I’m not in yet. Thinking about it for the money.
If you’re unemployed and opportunities have been scarce or you’ve been looking for a long time, take it. If you hate it, you can keep looking while you bring in a healthy income.
If time is not an issue, then keep applying for the job and agency account you’d actually be happy with, in the city you want, until something comes through. I wouldn’t jump to pharma in this case unless you actually want to pivot into pharma. Aside from helping out on a pitches, I don’t have a ton of exposure to the day-to-day work, but I’ve heard enough from people who do to know that it’s a very different animal from conventional consumer advertising. And for some, once you’re in, it’s hard to pivot back to your previous life. So choose wisely and based on what is most important for your career growth.
Are you art or copy? If you’ve never done it, opportunities (especially at ACD level) may be tough to come by.
Art. Do you mean this type of healthcare opportunity?
It’s easier for art than it is for copy. Copy needs to learn how to decipher the science.
Not necessarily. There are medical directors in the agency who help copywriters with that. Yes it’s a bigger learning curve for writers than ADs. But I’ve seen copywriters jump in fresh and do well within a month or so. I went from traditional to pharma two years ago. Still learning the tricks of this trade. But it’s just like shifting into any new area. Had the same on-ramp for beauty. And financial. And CPG. And food. You learn. Quickly. And it’s all fine. The fact of the matter is that Pharma is where the media spend is. So that’s where they need us. Period.
Fuck healthcare. Don't take it unless you have no other options.
As someone in pharma who doesn't love it, is consumer ad money that bad?? What's the actual numbers dif?
Agreed. I don’t think it’s a huge salary bump to be in pharma but maybe a bit more job stability. Or if you get laid off, easier to find another job.
