I come into the city from Jersey (not Jersey City, though) and I use njtransit and I say avoid it if you can at all costs. PATH isn't the best but it's less $$ and way more reliable than njtransit. Since Jersey City is along the path line it should be so much easier for you to take the path so I'd recommend that instead of the shitshow that is njtransit.
I already take NJ Transit from further out in Jersey and am sick of it. Need to move, but not looking to move into Manhattan or Hoboken. Jersey City would be ideal, but not if the commute is just as bad as what I am currently dealing with.
If you’re downtown or Journal Square, take the PATH. There’s no NJ transit to NY from JC or Hoboken. Some days (ok, a lot of days) the PATH sucks, and some days it’s ok. You’ll learn what times are the best to take the PATH - I find before 8:10am or after 9am are good. It just gets super crowded. Everyone and their mom is moving to JC and there’s not enough trains for them.
I live in downtown JC and work near grand central and my commute is 45 minutes in the morning and at night. So not too bad
I took NJ Transit from the Jersey suburbs for months, then moved to Hoboken and have been taking PATH since. I highly recommend it for JC. From the JC stops (when going from Hoboken to WTC), the ride is so quick and I’ve seen minimal problems. Any issues with getting to work on time were my own fault for running late - the PATH runs pretty regularly and efficiently, which is a blessing in the NJ commuting world. It does have its occasional snags, but not nearly on the same scale as NJ transit. I try to avoid NJ transit at all costs - I can’t speak for them in the JC area, but I recommend PATH regardless
Im doing the reverse commute to jersey city for a freelance gig. It depends where u need to end up in nyc. Going one stop to the Oculus is a breeze and all the trains are there. Sometimes i take the ferry cause it’s so beautiful
