OP, I would have discussed all of these issues upfront:
- any more rotations in team members/managers/partners etc whether vacation or rolling off the team
- what is expected of you, and how much time are you given to finish?
- you don’t have the industry experience and will need a bit of guidance. Has this been accounted for?
- you don’t have any built relationships with the client. Who will coordinate on client side?
If these questions were not answered satisfactorily, I would have gone back to my career coach and resourcing and make sure they’re aware that this will be a serious challenge, and you’ll struggle to deliver what’s being asked. Qualify them for “limitation of scope” 😂.
I don’t mean to make light of this. After you’ve been through a lot of engagements, you learn to spot the red flags and call them out early on
I've been in this exact position. It sucked and I worked hard only to end up with a POS review. Tried to fight the review, got put on a PIP. Then I quit, got a big raise, a much better boss, and amazing WLB. You don't have to accept the review. Just start looking elsewhere.
Continued from the main post-
It was hard to understand the engagement given that I was th only team member and deadline was approaching. I felt overwhelmed when started ( had to review 300 plus supports and was expected to conclude as experienced team member before Manger left for a week long leave). I had no clue what was going on. gradually I lost confidence & focused only on what what was assigned , hence did not lead the engagement . So she reviewed me negatively. How do I react to this situation?
(FYI- the current engagement I’m leading , we achieved more than targeted).
