“Just as a sculptor will use different tools to achieve desired effects in creating a work of art, in Alcoholics Anonymous the Twelve Steps are used to bring about results in my own life. I do not overwhelm myself with life's problems, and how much more work needs to be done. I let myself be comforted in knowing that my life is now in the hands of my Higher Power, a master craftsman who is shaping each part of my life into a unique work of art. By working my program I can be satisfied, knowing that "in doing the best that we can for today, we are doing all that God asks of us.”

This makes me think of this:
“When Michelangelo was asked how he carved the statue of David, he answered: "It's simple. I just remove everything that is NOT David." This is called: Addition through Subtraction Often, on our quest to unlock inner-greatness, we begin by looking in all the wrong places.”

This is great OP, thank you for sharing. I love that July 1st falls on a Monday and it just feels like a new start. Praying everyone has a safe and sober holiday and enjoys some time off work with family and friends.

I have a weird question

I have given interviews in
JPMorgan Chase for developer role and got the offer which is gud but interviews were not as tough as one might have expected from a reputed firm like jpmc.

Had 1 tech,1 tech-Manager round , Hire view test which was quite easy and an hr round.
Am a little worried about the standard of project and the team. I have offer from CIB Payments team. Checked with hiring manager and he said d role is for developer. Just worried abt quality of work

SEEKING OPINIONS & FEEDBACK: I love the honest & practical discussions here, where people can freely identify things that are going on & seek guidance.

Wondering whether anybody’d be interested in some kind of more purposeful community- i.e., gathering w/fellow lawyers to pursue some specific mental health & well-being goals? We’d provide some counseling/coaching type content, in bite sized chunks, but have regular discussions to connect & encourage one another on applying the content IRL.

1st of all: I’m super inspired by this bowl. I’m now mid-30s and recently went 50+ days without drinking and felt good/productive. (Longest streak since before turning 21) But how do you stick with it? I’m conflicted bc I haven’t hit a “rock bottom” and part of me loves a glass of wine to unwind and mark the end of the workday, but I also have a hard time stopping once I start (no such thing as 1 glass). Feel boarder-line between these 2 worlds and unsure where to go. Anyone feel similar?

This past Wednesday (the 24th), was 3 years of sobriety for me.

In 15 years of weekend binge/blackout drinking, NEVER had I gone more than 3 weeks without a drink (typically never more than 1 weekend without a drink), and now my sobriety is counted in years (though still one day at a time).

I am beyond grateful and I know that this is something I could never do on my own.

I might have a spending problem. I don’t think (?) I have a full blown addiction, but I’m cleaning out my closet and finding stuff that is few years old, still with the tags on, and lots of duplicates. I get a dopamine hit when I find a good deal and I’m wondering if it’s going too far. I can pay my bills, but I’m wasting a lot of $$ on things I don’t need. I have multiple family members who are/were addicts and hoarders and my own behavior is making me nervous. Any other big shoppers out there?

Looking for motivation to get me to my first Alcohol rehab appointment.

Is there anything like this out there for SA/PA? My highest stint of days was 237 and haven’t gotten close since. Mostly making it 1 month and then falling again…

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who shares in this group. It truly helps me stay sober. I am approaching 12 months sober but have been struggling lately. While I have not relapsed, I’ve been close. Normally, before I get out of bed, I write down my reason to stat sober for the day, but lately the reasons have been lousy at best. But reading about everyone’s struggles and successes has helped get me through this past month. So thank you all for the inspiration to keep going strong!

I left my last job because I didn't appreciate the culture (B4). However, it was probably because I was a terrible employee. However, I do find that my clients love me 10x more than my consulting colleagues. I joined a smaller firm to cover up the problem.

I drink during the day. I know it's the main reason for my ability to be a productive employee. Anyone else deal with this? I'm trying to control it through moderation management, Dharma meetings, therapy, and white knuckling.

After 3 years, the therapist disclosed that she’s in the program. I had wondered often about the source of her knowledge of the steps. Still I would’ve preferred her to remain anonymous in this regard. Now I keep wondering about whether I’ll see her at a meeting and what her story is. So odd. So self centered of me.

I’ve been sober for a few months and there are a few cocktail parties coming up at work. It’s “encouraged” to attend. Any advice? I have been to a couple backyard parties over the summer where I was around alcohol but I was mostly among friends. This is going to be different. Anyone else ever have a situation like this? Any advice is appreciated.
