Joined as a (very) experienced hire as asc at 37.
Partner1, thank you for sharing your experience. As an experienced hire from the industry, I can relate to it. Very helpful!
Came from an MBA but started at the same tenure at 31. It’s on the older side but not out of the typical range. Don’t let it get to you and good luck!
Many joined after MBA. 33 is completely reasonable, but you need to learn not to constantly compare yourself with younger folks.
I joined BCG at 33 and had a 25 year career there on both the generalist and expert career tracks, finishing up as Partner & Director. I answered a similar question on Quora:

Most associates are 27-30. 33 is old but not unheard of
I'm 33, started a few months back.. Also know other ASCs that are in late 30s. Everyone's journey is different :)
You're fine
Thanks everyone! Very encouraging
And here’s a related answer I wrote that has a more nuanced position about MBB expectations of career progression, and on the relative merits of joining as an expert or senior advisor vs the traditional generalist track:

Joined at the bottom at Bain (Associate Consultant - is that the same?) at 31.
The only issue I had was having kids quite soon after - people were just used to juniors with the sort of childcare compromises that more senior folks often need.
Otherwise no problems, and I had 3 early promotions on the way to Associate Partner.
Joining as an AC1 at 29 before long (with kids to follow ~mid-AC2). Any advice on (1) making the career work as an older junior and (2) balancing things once kids are in the picture?
Also:
(3) Did your tenure pause while on paternity leave? (4) What was your third acceleration point? I know you can shave ~6 months off AC2 to SAC and M to SM.
Also started 33. Perfectly doable. It is an age people are building families though, and it would be a lie to say that is easy
Going to be a Con at 37 soon, so not really no
Started post MBA at 35
