Valentine’s Day and LinkedIn is full of “love your job” posts. I like my work, but I am not in love with it, and that feels honest. Is it normal to want something better without being unhappy?

God I hate LinkedIn. And yes, perfectly normal. I'm not looking to love what I do. All I care about is being paid well and having decent WLB. Anything on top of that is gravy.

I feel the same way. I do not need to love my job. If the pay is fair, the work is reasonable, and life outside work is good, that is more than enough.

Everyone loves what they do til they take a 50% pay cut…

That is a fair point. Passion often feels very different when compensation changes. Pay still shapes how people experience their work more than most companies admit.

There are a lot of things on the internet that aren't real life, and LinkedIn is definitely one of the most "not real life" things ever. It has always been filled with log rolling and backslapping, but in recent years it's gotten out of control. All these sad souls trying to get noticed and be influencers take cringe to a new level. And there's nothing wrong with not pledging that you love your job. It's a job, it's not your life.

I agree that LinkedIn often shows a polished version of reality. Most people simply want meaningful work, decent pay, and balance. It does not have to be a life calling.
